Professional Development

Lichen in the Mojave Desert Preserve.

Charismatic Microflora: The Ecology and Management of Biological Soil Crusts Workshop.

Dates: February 20-23, 2020

Instructors: Matt Bowker, Kirsten Fisher, Brent Mishler, Tom Carlberg and Mandy Slate

Location: This Jepson Herbarium workshop took place at the California State University Desert Studies Center in Zzyzx, California.

Workshop description: Researchers from the Desiccation and Diversity in Dryland Mosses project hosted this workshop to provide information about biocrusts.

Skills: I learned the characteristics of mosses, lichens, and cyanobacteria. We used a 10X magnified hand lens to look at biocrusts. We engaged in a lecture series and microscope sessions.
