30-hour service learning project with Return of the Natives
Urban areas could benefit from more native plants because they require little water and provide flood control by reducing runoff. My 30-hour service project with the Return of the Natives involved creating outreach content about populating urban areas with native plants. I also made a guide for native plant uses which was derived from Native American ethnobotany. Although Return of the Natives specializes in restoration at the CSU Monterey Bay Watershed Institute, this semester the work is virtually located on the Instagram page. One community member responded that she visited the Blue Moon Native Garden nursery for native plants for her home garden. My service project contributed to the local effort in Monterey to expand native gardens.
